WHY BLUE ?

"Because blue resembles the sea, the sea resembles the sky, and the sky resembles the 'Chair of Glory'"

 Men. 43b

The Biblical Blue (Tekehelet)

The blue was the rarest and most prestigious product of the ancient world. The use of blue in clothing was a token of the high position of the wearer, and a symbol of his richness and of his great influence. According to Jewish Halacha, blue is produced from a material secreted in a MARINE SNAIL called "THE HEXAPLEX TRUNCULUS”, found along the Mediterranean coast. Therefore, blue is diffrent from other colors in a way that it is both a material and a dye (as gold is both a material and a color).

In Judaism, “The blue commandment ” is to put a blue thread on the fringe of the borders of the TASSEL (TZITZIT). This commandment appears in the “HEAR O' ISRAEL" (Shema Israel) blessing, to be recited morning and evening:

“…AND THAT THEY PUT UPON THE FRINGE OF THE BORDERS A RIBBAND OF BLUE … AND THAT YE SEEK NOT AFTER YOUR OWN HEART AND YOUR OWN EYES AFTER WHICH YE USE TO GO A WHORING”

The purpose of the blue commandment is to remind us of our spiritual being and connect us to the holy creation, which is often forgotten in a reality in which material blinds and rules our eyes and hearts.

What does BIBLICAL BLUE represent?

Blue is the most spiritual color in Judaism. Blue constitutes a daily reminder that one must look beyond the obvious, and provides us a sensation of the greater things and the mighty internal strength inside all of us, without giving up the pleasures of life that we all seek & desire.

The biblical blue provides us a daily reminder of our higher self and enables us to enjoy a balanced life. And when we feel good- everything flows more easily.

The disappearance of THE BIBLICAL BLUE

Due to its prestige and the difficulty of obtaining it, the manufacture of the biblical blue was ceased about 1300 years ago. The secrets of the magical blue color, jointly with the identity of the MARINE SNAIL that served for its production, disappeared from the face of the earth.

About a hundred years ago, a renewed quest for the biblical blue was initiated by rabbis as well as an attempt to renew the commandment. Also, the species of MARINE SNAIL from which the blue is produced (HEXAPLEX TRUNCULUS) was again revealed. The renewed wearing of THE BLUE THREAD made waves around the world.  Hundreds of thousands started wearing again blue according to Jewish Halacha, and thus kept the commandment “THAT THEY PUT UPON THE FRINGE OF THE BORDERS A THREAD OF BLUE” (numbers,15, 38).

Our logo is similar to the shape of the Marine Snail's shell wich biblical blue is produced according to the Jewish Halacha.

The wearing of THE BLUE BRACELET does not constitute keeping the commandment of wearing a TASSEL (TZITZIT), but its purpose is to bring about the same spiritual state.
